A New Complex:  Hilltop Elementary and Hardee Junior High School

January 17, 2005 Ground Breaking Ceremony

Superintendent Dennis Jones addresses the crowd during the ground breaking ceremony. Board members: Joe Jones, Jan Platt, Ben Cotton, Tonya Royal, and Tracy Baxter.

The 34.5 million dollar complex was built by Peter Brown Construction and L. Cobb Construction,

contractor partners. Architects for the project were from the firm of Clemons, Rutherford & Associates.

This campus was placed on a 60-acre track in the Wauchula Hills area. It eased the overcrowding

of Bowling Green Elementary and also served as the new site for Hardee Junior High. This campus,

about 1,700 students, includes a gymnasium and a 700-seat auditorium.

Mrs. Tracy Nix was appointed to serve as the principal of Hilltop Elementary,

and Mrs. Mae Robinson as principal of Hardee Junior High.

The new K-8 complex was officially opened for the first day of school on August 9, 2006.

At the ground-breaking ceremony, Superintendent Dennis Jones stated, “This a good day for

this community. We are celebrating the beginning of a project that will directly benefit over

5,000 students. We genuinely consider this not a school project, but a community project.

It shows we take pride in our schools and we’re serious about education.”
