Baseball Wildcat Style in the Early 1900’s

Baseball in Wauchula began in the early 1900’s. The teamed played in the City Park.

By 1919, Wauchula became the South Florida Champions. They played against Ft. Meade and won! Tampa team cancelled the game and never rescheduled thus Wauchula became the champs by default.

An Intercity League was formed in 1921. The league included Wauchula, Bartow Arcadia and Carlstrom Field.

Professor M.R. Stroud served as the coach for the winning champion team. At the time, Coach Stroud was assistant principal at Wauchula High School.
