Hardee Junior High participates in the AVID program, a non-profit college readiness program that helps students develop the many skills they need to be successful in college. AVID is a philosophy encompassing the idea that "effort creates ability." AVID appropriately stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. Special emphasis is placed on growing writing, reading, critical thinking, teamwork, and organization skills. At HJH, AVID is both an elective for selected students and a school-wide initiative. College bulletin boards were designed by teachers to showcase the various options students have for continuing their education. Teachers and students also wear college-themed t-shirts every Wednesday. There is one elective class for each grade level, 6th-8th. The sixth-grade AVID teacher is Mrs. Dana DuBose, the seventh-grade AVID teacher is Mrs. Micah Myers, and the eighth-grade AVID teacher is Mrs. Kim McGuckin. Mrs. Micha Myers serves as the AVID Site Coordinator for Hardee Junior High.
